Gremlins

This hilarious horror is definitely not for those who can’t stomach a little bit of gore every now and then. Billy Peltzer is given a mogwai called Gizmo as a Christmas present and is given three rules he must stick to in order to look after it. Don’t get it wet, don’t feed it after midnight and don’t shine any bright lights on it.

Gizmo is a small, cute and apparently innocent creature what becomes of him after breaking any of these rules is unknown until Pete, Billy’s friend, accidentally spills a cup of water on Gizmo this is what happens:

These are known as gremlins they are an evil form of Mogwai and they are hell-bent on wreaking havoc in the small town of Kingston falls. They trick Billy into thinking it is still before midnight and he feeds them changing them into small, green, scaly, evil monsters. As it deliberately subjects itself to water these little green monsters overrun the town causing chaos wherever they go.

The crazy shenanigans the Gremlins get up to in this film make it unlike any other film, and in the creation of this film there was no CGI used, every single gremlin is an animatronic making the final product that much more impressive.

There are some particularly violent moments in this film meaning perhaps that it isn’t the best for young children. However it also has many comical moments and even references to other films. At the very end Billy is chased by one Gremlin known as Stripe wielding a chainsaw, this is reference to the film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

To anyone who hasn’t seen this film seriously give it a watch and you won’t be disappointed.

As Billy’s father Randall says: “Well, that’s the story. So if your air conditioner goes on the fritz or your washing machine blows up or your video recorder conks out; before you call the repairman turn on all the lights, check all the closets and cupboards, look under all the beds, ’cause you never can tell there just might be a gremlin in your house.”
